How "serious" does Hanfu have to be? (posted by Yun'er)
From what I've seen of the revival so far, most of the clothes are not something I would wear all of a sudden onto the street. I realise this is what we're trying ot get to be able to do, but I feel like some of the approaches have been a little too shocking for the general public?
Basically, I can present my wondering with something simpler, like patterns and fabric type. Normally in today's society, the shiny, beautiful material often used for Chiangsam/Qi Pao is not used as an everyday thing (I don't know hte name of hte material, but many a hanfu are made with it, though thickness varies). Wearing it out is still a bit much under most circumstances. That type of material, plus a pretty, Chinese embroidery or print; I feel like it's something I'd wear to a dinner party, not as normal clothes. Not to mention, expensive to make or buy.
The second thing is whether we need to go "full out" with the clothes (in particular). Personally I prefer going full out, but sometimes i'm in the mood for "a chinese top and a normal skirt" type of thing. I also feel that there can be more creativity with the hanfu. The Qi Pao has changed so much since it's Qing dynasty origins and the kimono from its traditional forms.
Since we are trying to revive the hanfu, and not much pple know about it yet, it wouldnt make much sense to alter it so much it's nearly unrecognizable of course (as some do with the qi pao since it's so "known"), but perhaps add a little more allowance to the authenticity of hte design? Just small, modern/other touches that can be functional (the main reason i tweak my designs a little), yet have hte overall and main look stay the same.
Essentially, I agree completely with everything about the hanfu movement. I'm simply wondering, since I haven't seen anything else, if pple would accept these "less serious" methods/modes of embracing the hanfu, or if pple desire, literally, "the real thing."</CC> </P> |
